Santa Barbara vs Allan Hancock
SANTA MARIA, Calif. (Interstat) — A key Central Coast men’s junior college basketball rematch is set for Saturday when the Allan Hancock Bulldogs host the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros on Sophomore Day.
The Bulldogs (18-8), who sit higher in the conference standings, will look to complete a regular-season sweep after defeating the Vaqueros 75-64 in Santa Barbara on Jan. 21. Allan Hancock enters having lost two of its last three, including a 77-71 road loss to Moorpark on Wednesday. In that game, guard Arlind Konjuhi led the Bulldogs with 18 points, four rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes.
The Vaqueros (12-12), hovering at .500, aim to snap a two-game road skid and avenge January’s loss. They are coming off a 74-64 home victory over Los Angeles Pierce on Wednesday, fueled by an efficient performance from guard Mason Thomas. Thomas scored 22 points in just 15 minutes off the bench, adding two rebounds and two assists.
Santa Barbara’s recent form has been inconsistent, with a 3-4 record in its last seven games. Beyond Thomas, forward James Reach provides a consistent interior presence, posting a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Pierce.
Allan Hancock has been stronger at home and will honor its sophomore players in a pregame ceremony. The Bulldogs’ offense runs through Konjuhi, while forward TJ Hollinger adds scoring and rebounding depth.
Saturday’s contest, organized by the California Community College Athletic Association, tips off at 3 p.m. at Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. The Vaqueros’ next game is Feb. 20 against Cuesta, while the Bulldogs travel to face Ventura on Feb. 18.
