Chabot vs San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The state’s top-ranked junior college men’s basketball team will put its dominant season on the line Friday when the San Francisco Rams host the Chabot Gladiators in a California Community College Athletic Association matchup.

The Rams (23-1), whose only loss this season came outside of conference play, have been nearly untouchable, winning their games by an average margin of 26.5 points. They enter on a 12-game winning streak, most recently demolishing Ohlone 109-54 on Feb. 6. A key contributor is Kirby Seals, who posted 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in a win over Canada (Calif.) on Feb. 4.

They will face a Chabot squad (17-7) looking for redemption after a lopsided 86-60 home loss to Las Positas last Friday and a 84-59 defeat to these same Rams just three weeks ago on Jan. 21. In that prior meeting, San Francisco controlled the game from start to finish at Chabot.

The Gladiators’ recent form has been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. A player to watch for Chabot is Kamari King, though he was limited to just one minute in the loss to Las Positas.

For San Francisco, the game represents another hurdle in a season aimed at a state title. Their defense has been stifling, holding conference opponents to an average of just 60.2 points per game.

Chabot will need a significant defensive improvement and efficient scoring to challenge the Rams’ suffocating system. The Gladiators’ path to an upset likely requires slowing the game’s tempo and finding production beyond their recent struggles.

Friday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. at San Francisco’s main gymnasium. Following this game, San Francisco will travel to face Skyline on Feb. 18, while Chabot will host De Anza on the same date.
