Sacramento City vs Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Thursday night when the state-ranked Santa Rosa Bear Cubs host the struggling Sacramento City Panthers in a California Community College Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup.
The Bear Cubs (19-4), riding a five-game winning streak, have established themselves as one of the region’s top teams. They will look to continue their dominance against a Panthers squad mired in a 1-6 skid and sitting at 8-16 overall.
Santa Rosa’s strength is underscored by its 77-55 road victory over Sacramento City just last month. The Bear Cubs are led by standout forward Travis Hightower, who is coming off a 20-point, 8-rebound performance in a 68-54 win at Cosumnes River on Feb. 6. Over his last six games, Hightower has averaged a double-double, including a 17-point, 17-rebound effort against Diablo Valley.
Sacramento City, meanwhile, is reeling from a 93-60 home loss to Diablo Valley last Friday. Defense has been a persistent issue for the Panthers, who have allowed an average of 94 points per game during their recent rough stretch. Their lone win since Jan. 13 was an 87-67 victory over American River on Feb. 3.
Despite the lopsided records and Santa Rosa’s convincing win in the previous meeting, a statistical projection from Interstat adds intrigue, simulating a 100-100 final score for the rematch. To approach that outcome, the Panthers must find consistent offense beyond their recent performances and significantly improve their defensive intensity.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Santa Rosa Junior College. Following this contest, Santa Rosa will prepare to host Modesto on Feb. 17, while Sacramento City travels to face Sierra on the same date.
