PLEASANT HILL, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in seasons will be on display Thursday night when the Cosumnes River Hawks visit the Diablo Valley Vikings in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup.

The Hawks (18-5), one of the region’s top teams, aim to rebound from a rare home loss, while the Vikings (10-11) look to build momentum from a dominant road victory. Tipoff is set for Feb. 12 at Diablo Valley College.

Cosumnes River enters having won seven of its last nine, but is coming off a 68-54 home defeat to Santa Rosa on Feb. 6. In that game, guard Aaron Gillyard led the Hawks with 16 points and five rebounds. Gillyard remains a key player to watch for a Hawks offense that has shown explosive potential, including a 123-point performance last month.

Diablo Valley, however, arrives with confidence after a 93-60 rout of Sacramento City on Feb. 6. That game featured a monstrous performance from forward Jacob Harvey, who posted 17 points and a remarkable 20 rebounds. Harvey’s recent form, including a 13-point game in a win over American River on Jan. 23, will be central to the Vikings’ hopes.

The teams met earlier this season on Jan. 13 in Sacramento, with Cosumnes River securing a 77-62 victory. The Hawks have relied on a balanced attack, with contributors like Kainoa Marasco (17 points vs. Santa Rosa) and Jake Williams supplementing Gillyard.

The Vikings counter with Harvey and guard Mozell Wilson, who had 16 points and five assists in the win over Sacramento City. Diablo Valley’s challenge will be finding consistency, as their season has been marked by alternating wins and losses.

A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a 100-100 tie, suggesting a potentially high-scoring and tightly contested affair. The game carries weight for postseason positioning, with Cosumnes River seeking to solidify its standing and Diablo Valley aiming to climb back to .500.

For Diablo Valley, this begins a two-game homestand before visiting Modesto on Feb. 20. Cosumnes River, after this contest, will not play again until hosting Sierra on Feb. 20.
