Saddleback vs Cypress
Preview: Saddleback Bobcats at Cypress Chargers
CYPRESS, Calif. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams with identical aspirations and nearly identical records will clash Thursday when the Saddleback Bobcats visit the Cypress Chargers in a pivotal California Community College Athletic Association matchup.
Both teams enter the Feb. 12 contest at 13 wins overall, with Saddleback at 13-12 and Cypress at 13-11. The game serves as a critical opportunity for each to gain separation in the standings and secure momentum for the final stretch of the season.
The Bobcats arrive with confidence, having won three of their last four games. They are coming off an 84-78 home victory over Santa Ana on Tuesday, powered by a 24-point performance from guard Mark Reichner. The sophomore has been a consistent offensive force for Saddleback.
However, the Chargers will be looking for redemption on their home court. The last meeting between these teams on Jan. 21 resulted in an 80-65 road victory for Saddleback. In that game, Cypress forward Michael Wright scored 17 points but received limited support.
Wright has been a standout for Cypress, averaging a double-double in recent weeks. He posted 20 points and six rebounds in a loss to Fullerton on Tuesday and recorded a triple-double of 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a win over Santa Ana on Jan. 28. Containing him will be a primary focus for the Bobcats’ defense.
Saddleback’s recent success has been fueled by balanced contributions. In the win over Santa Ana, Jaden Rahmaan added 15 points and five assists, while Charlie Stallings controlled the paint with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Cypress seeks to rebound from a disappointing 83-63 loss at Fullerton, where defensive lapses proved costly. The Chargers’ season has been marked by streaks, and they will aim to start a new winning run against their familiar foe.
The matchup promises high intensity as both programs fight for playoff positioning. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. PST at Cypress College.
