Monterey Peninsula vs San Jose
MONTEREY PENINSULA LOBOS AT SAN JOSE JAGUARS
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — The surging San Jose Jaguars, among the state’s top men’s junior college basketball teams, will host the rival Monterey Peninsula Lobos in a California conference matchup Wednesday night.
San Jose (19-6 overall) enters with momentum from a tight 70-68 road victory over Foothill last Friday. The Jaguars’ only recent blemish was a 54-64 loss at West Valley on Feb. 4. They have dominated conference play, including a 103-43 rout of Gavilan on Jan. 30 and a 75-46 win at Hartnell on Jan. 28.
A key player for the Jaguars is Jeremiah Butler, who scored 19 points in just 20 minutes during that victory at Hartnell. His efficient scoring will be central to San Jose’s offensive plans.
Monterey Peninsula (10-15) has shown recent resilience, winning two straight close games. The Lobos defeated Gavilan 77-69 at home last Friday and edged Hartnell 59-57 on Feb. 4. This marks an uptick for a team that had lost three of its previous four contests.
The Jaguars won the first meeting this season, 60-51 at Monterey Peninsula on Jan. 16. In that game, San Jose’s defense contained the Lobos’ attack, a formula they will look to replicate on their home floor.
The Lobos’ recent success has been fueled by defense, holding three of their last four opponents under 70 points. They will need a similar effort to slow down a potent San Jose offense that has surpassed 100 points twice in conference play.
For Monterey Peninsula, challenging San Jose on the road represents an opportunity to build a winning streak and gain ground in the conference standings. For the Jaguars, the game is a chance to solidify their position near the top and continue their pursuit of a postseason berth.
Following this game, Monterey Peninsula will host West Valley on Friday. San Jose will travel to face Cabrillo on Friday.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026.
