San Diego Miramar vs San Diego City

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — A surging San Diego City Knights squad will look to continue its dominance and solidify its conference standing when it hosts the rival San Diego Miramar Jets in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday.

The Knights (18-5), winners of nine straight games, have established themselves as a force in the California community college scene. Their recent form has been overwhelming, with an average margin of victory of 26.2 points during their winning streak. They previously defeated the Jets 84-71 on Jan. 14.

San Diego City is powered by standout Dylan Griffin, who has been on a historic tear. Over his last five games, Griffin is averaging 26.8 points, 12.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists, including a 29-point, 8-rebound, 5-block performance in a 108-70 rout of Imperial Valley on Feb. 4. His versatility makes him the focal point of a high-scoring Knights offense.

The visiting Jets (11-11) enter with momentum after a thrilling 80-79 overtime road victory at Palomar on Feb. 6. That win snapped a two-game skid and showcased their resilience. They will rely heavily on guard Ah-Zion Applewhaite, who poured in 36 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the Palomar win. Applewhaite averages 26.5 points over his last two contests.

For Miramar to pull the upset, containing Griffin and improving its defensive consistency will be paramount. In the January meeting, the Knights built a double-digit lead and never relented. The Jets will need similar production from supporting players like Dimetrius Simpson (12 rebounds vs. Palomar) and Jaden Merritt to complement Applewhaite’s scoring.

The Knights, however, have shown no signs of slowing down. With a potent offense and a star player operating at an elite level, they are heavy favorites on their home floor. The matchup between Griffin and Applewhaite provides a compelling individual duel within the city rivalry.

Tip-off is set for Wednesday night at San Diego City College.
