Los Angeles Pierce vs Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Interstat) — The Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros will look to sweep the season series when they host the Los Angeles Pierce College Brahmas in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night.
The Vaqueros (11-12) defeated the Brahmas (5-18) 72-62 on the road on Jan. 17. In that game, Santa Barbara’s Jack Berry posted a dominant double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Berry remains a key player for Santa Barbara, averaging 18.3 points over his last three contests. He scored 21 points in a 93-83 loss at Ventura on Feb. 7.
Pierce, mired in a three-game losing streak, will rely on Andrew Shackelford. The guard is coming off a 13-point, five-rebound performance in a 73-50 home loss to Allan Hancock on Feb. 7. In the teams’ first meeting, Shackelford was held to eight points.
The Brahmas have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 92.3 points during their current skid, including a 124-79 defeat at Ventura on Jan. 31.
Santa Barbara has shown more consistency, alternating wins and losses over its past six games. Following a 71-66 victory over Oxnard on Feb. 4, the Vaqueros fell at Ventura.
Historically, the road has been unkind to Pierce, which is 1-9 in away games this season. Santa Barbara holds a 7-5 record at home.
After this contest, Santa Barbara visits Allan Hancock on Saturday. Pierce hosts Oxnard on Saturday.
