Cuesta vs Oxnard
Preview: Cuesta Cougars at Oxnard Condors
OXNARD, Calif. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking to halt losing streaks will meet Wednesday night when the Cuesta Cougars visit the Oxnard Condors.
The non-conference matchup, organized by the California Community College Athletic Association, features teams with struggling overall records. Cuesta enters at 8-16, while Oxnard sits at 5-17.
Both squads are looking to rebound from recent defeats. The Cougars are coming off a 95-68 home loss to Moorpark on Feb. 7, where James Nugent posted 9 points and 8 rebounds. The Condors fell 71-66 at Santa Barbara on Feb. 4, despite a 25-point, 9-rebound effort from Carter Reid.
Nugent, a key player to watch for Cuesta, averaged 12.1 points and 4.3 rebounds over his last seven games. He scored 15 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists in Cuesta’s 78-62 victory over Oxnard on Jan. 17.
For Oxnard, Reid has emerged as a consistent force, averaging 22.0 points and 9.3 rebounds over his last four full contests. His role has expanded significantly since playing just one minute in the January loss to Cuesta.
The Cougars have won the last two head-to-head meetings, including a 78-62 win last month and an 81-72 road victory on Dec. 13, 2025.
Following this game, Cuesta (8-16) will host Ventura on Saturday. Oxnard (5-17) will travel to face Los Angeles Pierce on Saturday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Condor Center.
