Compton vs Cerritos
CERRIOS, Calif. (Interstat) — The Cerritos College Falcons delivered a dominant performance from the opening tip, overwhelming the visiting Compton College Tartars 100-58 in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.
The most important part of the game was its decisive start, which effectively ended the contest before halftime. Cerritos established immediate and overwhelming control, racing to a 46-point first quarter while holding Compton to just 18 points. This 28-point opening-period deficit set a tone of total Falcon supremacy, from which the Tartars never recovered. The Falcons’ offensive execution was clinical, and their defensive pressure stifling, rendering the game’s final outcome a foregone conclusion by the second quarter.
Cerritos, which improved to 21-4 overall, showcased a balanced and efficient attack. Dorian Tate led all scorers with 27 points, adding 10 rebounds and four assists in just 24 minutes of action. Elijah Gelin provided 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Kamaury Washington and DJ Holt each chipped in 12 points. Isaac Sowell controlled the glass with 12 rebounds.
The Falcons shot 52% from the field and 44% from three-point range. They also dominated the rebounding battle, 54-36, and converted 17 of 23 free throw attempts. Their offensive rating of 133.5 points per 100 possessions underscored a night of high-percentage basketball.
Compton, which fell to 10-15, struggled mightily with its shooting throughout the game. The Tartars connected on just 31% of their field goal attempts and a meager 17% from beyond the arc. Keishawn Ross Jr. recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Nathan Ibarra added a team-high 14 points, but their efforts were no match for the Cerritos onslaught.
The victory completed a regular-season sweep for Cerritos, which also defeated Compton 88-58 on Jan. 23. The Falcons have now won eight of their last nine games. Compton has lost two of its last three.
Cerritos will host Los Angeles Harbor on Friday. Compton will travel to face Long Beach the same day.
