Butte vs Lassen
SUSANVILLE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Butte College Roadrunners and Lassen College Cougars will meet for the second time in 11 days in a California community college men’s basketball game Saturday, with the visiting Roadrunners looking to complete a season sweep.
The matchup at the Lassen Cougars’ gym pits teams at opposite ends of the standings. Butte enters with an 11-13 overall record, while Lassen has struggled to a 2-21 mark.
Butte dominated the first meeting on Jan. 28 in Oroville, cruising to an 84-52 victory. Roadrunners guard De’Nage Kelly was instrumental in that win, scoring 17 points with six rebounds and seven assists in just one minute of play—a statistical anomaly likely reflecting a data entry error for minutes played. Kelly has been a consistent force, posting a 19-point, 15-rebound performance in a win over Shasta on Jan. 24.
Butte has lost two of its last three games, most recently falling 89-81 at Feather River on Jan. 31. Lassen’s struggles have continued, with a 79-47 home loss to Feather River on Wednesday marking their fifth consecutive defeat since the loss to Butte. The Cougars have not scored more than 65 points in any game during that skid.
Despite the stark contrast in records and recent form, a statistical projection from Interstat adds intrigue, simulating a 100-100 tie for this contest. Achieving that score would require a dramatic offensive surge from Lassen, which has averaged just 52.6 points per game over its last five outings.
For Lassen, the game represents a chance for redemption on its home floor after the lopsided loss earlier this month. For Butte, it is a critical opportunity to solidify its record against the conference’s bottom side before a rematch with Siskiyous next Wednesday.
After this game, Butte will host Siskiyous on Feb. 11. Lassen will remain at home to face Shasta on the same date.
