Columbia (Calif.) vs Reedley
REEDLEY, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Columbia (Calif.) team, ranked among the state’s elite, aims to continue its dominant run when it visits Reedley in a California community college men’s basketball matchup Saturday.
The Claim Jumpers (19-3) bring a nine-game winning streak into the contest, having most recently dismantled Merced 92-65 on Wednesday. Their last loss came on Dec. 20. The Reedley Tigers (11-12), meanwhile, have struggled for consistency, dropping their last three games, including a 74-61 defeat at Sequoias on Wednesday.
Columbia’s strength is anchored by forward Ahsan Huff, who is coming off a monstrous 20-point, 18-rebound, five-block performance against Merced. In the teams’ first meeting this season, a 67-57 Columbia win on Jan. 14, Huff posted 8 points and 22 rebounds. He has recorded a double-double in points and rebounds in four of his last five complete games.
Reedley will counter with guard CJ Kornegay Jr., its leading scorer in recent contests. Kornegay poured in 21 points against Sequoias and is averaging 16.2 points over his last five outings. He was held to just 6 points in the January loss to Columbia.
The Tigers have shown flashes, notably with a road win over Fresno City on Jan. 24, but have found wins harder to come by in a tough conference slate. They will need a standout defensive effort to contain a deep Columbia offense that features multiple threats beyond Huff, including Dylon Hanna and EJ Campbell, who combined for 34 points in the win over Merced.
Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon at Reedley College. The game is a key conference fixture for both teams as they navigate the final stretch of the regular season. Columbia will look to solidify its top-tier standing, while Reedley aims to play spoiler and build momentum for its own playoff push.
