Canyons vs Citrus

GLENDORA, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Citrus College men’s basketball team, boasting one of the nation’s best junior college records, will host a Canyons team seeking revenge when the rivals meet Saturday in a California Community College Athletic Association matchup.

The state-ranked Owls (20-1) have dominated their schedule, their lone loss coming in overtime on Jan. 2. They average over 102 points per game and handed the visiting Cougars (13-8) a 99-82 defeat just three weeks ago on Jan. 14. In that game, Citrus shot 54% from the field and never trailed.

Citrus is led by sophomore forward Rockwell Reynolds, who is coming off a 26-point, 9-rebound performance in an 83-77 road win at Antelope Valley on Wednesday. Reynolds has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games, providing efficient offense in limited minutes for the deep Owls.

Canyons arrives with momentum after a narrow 64-63 home victory over Antelope Valley last Saturday, snapped a two-game skid. The Cougars will rely heavily on forward Craig Irons, who posted a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double in that win. Irons was limited to just 12 minutes and 3 points in the first meeting with Citrus, a key factor in the lopsided result.

For the Cougars to pull the upset, they must control the tempo, limit turnovers against Citrus’s pressure defense, and keep the Owls’ potent transition offense in check. Citrus, which has won 12 straight since its only loss, will look to exploit its depth and home-court advantage to maintain its hold on first place in conference standings.

Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Citrus College.
