Cabrillo vs Hartnell

SALINAS, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Friday night when the Cabrillo Seahawks visit the Hartnell Panthers in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup.

The Seahawks (12-8) enter the contest looking to rebound from a narrow 70-67 home loss to Monterey Peninsula on Jan. 30, a result that snapped a two-game winning streak. Prior to that, Cabrillo had secured victories over Foothill (77-73) and West Valley (72-66), showcasing an offense capable of high outputs, including a 105-point performance against Gavilan on Jan. 16.

Hartnell (0-19), meanwhile, continues a desperate search for its first win of the season. The Panthers are coming off a 75-46 home loss to San Jose on Jan. 28 and have struggled on both ends of the floor. Their season has been marked by lopsided defeats, including a 102-35 loss to West Valley and a 109-54 loss to Foothill.

The historical trajectory of both teams suggests a challenging night for the host Panthers. Cabrillo’s balanced attack, led by its recent form, will face a Hartnell defense that has consistently allowed opponents to score freely. The Seahawks won the previous meeting between the teams this season, 92-86 at Monterey Peninsula on Jan. 7, though that game was notably closer than most of Hartnell’s outings.

For Cabrillo, this game represents a critical opportunity to solidify its standing and build momentum before a key stretch against Gavilan and San Jose next week. For Hartnell, it is another chance to break a prolonged losing streak and find a positive result in front of a home crowd at The Panther’s Den.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.
