San Mateo vs Skyline
SAN MATEO, Calif. (Interstat) — A tight California community college men’s basketball race brings the San Mateo Bulldogs to Skyline College on Friday night for a rematch with the Trojans, who are seeking revenge after a narrow loss last month.
The Bulldogs (15-7 overall) enter with a superior record but have been inconsistent in conference play, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. They are coming off a 68-64 home victory over Ohlone on Jan. 30. Skyline (9-13) has struggled to find momentum, though it snapped a five-game skid with an 83-79 win over De Anza on Jan. 28 before falling 60-58 at Chabot last Friday.
These teams met in San Mateo on Jan. 14, with the Bulldogs escaping with a 67-64 victory. Skyline standout Zidane Auzarang torched San Mateo for 29 points and 10 rebounds in that contest, highlighting a dominant recent stretch for the guard. Over his last four games, Auzarang is averaging 21 points, 7.3 rebounds and four assists, making him the primary focus for San Mateo’s defense.
San Mateo will counter with its balanced attack, which has leaned on a stout defense for much of its success. The Bulldogs have held opponents under 70 points in nine of their 15 wins this season.
The game is a critical one for both teams’ positioning within the conference. According to Interstat’s game simulator, this matchup is a toss-up, projecting a 100-100 tie, underscoring the expected competitiveness.
Following this contest, San Mateo will host San Francisco on Feb. 11. Skyline hits the road to face Las Positas on the same date. Friday’s tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Skyline College in San Bruno.
