San Diego City vs Cuyamaca

EL CAJON, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging San Diego City College men’s basketball team looks to continue its dominance when it visits Cuyamaca College in a California Community College Athletic Association matchup Friday night.

The Knights (16-5) enter on a six-game winning streak, having averaged 90.8 points per game during that stretch. Their last loss was on Dec. 30. The Coyotes (9-12) have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses in their last five contests.

All eyes will be on San Diego City’s Dylan Griffin, who has been a force of nature. The standout is averaging a near triple-double over his last five games, including a 20-point, 16-rebound, 8-assist performance in a 90-60 rout of San Diego Mesa on Jan. 28. In the teams’ first meeting this season, a Jan. 9 Knights’ 85-77 victory, Griffin posted 20 points and eight rebounds in just 24 minutes.

Cuyamaca will counter with guard Jordan Garner, who dished out nine assists in each of his last two full games. He scored 19 points against the Knights in the January loss.

The Knights’ offense, which also features contributors like Pharaoh Amadi and Micah Brickner, will test a Cuyamaca defense that allowed 83 points in a loss to San Diego Miramar on Jan. 26 before holding MiraCosta to 57 points in a win two days later.

San Diego City has won the last head-to-head meeting and holds a significant edge in season record. For Cuyamaca, protecting its home court and finding an answer for Griffin’s all-around game will be the primary challenges. A win for the Coyotes would be a major upset and could provide momentum for the final stretch of conference play.

Tipoff is set for Friday, Feb. 6, at Cuyamaca College.
