Imperial Valley vs San Diego Mesa
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The San Diego Mesa Olympians will look to capitalize on a favorable matchup Friday night when they host the winless Imperial Valley Arabs in a California community college men’s basketball game.
The contest pits teams at opposite ends of the standings. The Olympians (9-14) enter the game seeking consistency, while the Arabs (0-21) are desperate for their first victory of the season. The teams met just under a month ago, with San Diego Mesa securing a 74-56 road win on Jan. 9.
Imperial Valley’s struggles have been profound, losing by an average of nearly 30 points during its current 21-game skid. The Arabs are coming off an 88-65 home loss to MiraCosta on Jan. 30 and have not scored more than 73 points in a game since early December. Defense has been a persistent issue, as they have allowed 100 or more points four times this season.
San Diego Mesa has faced its own challenges but has shown flashes of competitiveness, including a 58-54 victory over MiraCosta on Jan. 26. The Olympians are looking to bounce back from a 91-77 loss to Palomar in their last outing.
A key player to watch for the home team is Michael Contreras. He is coming off a solid performance in a loss to San Diego City on Jan. 28, where he contributed 12 points and four assists in 29 minutes. His playmaking will be central to Mesa’s offensive flow.
For Imperial Valley, the mission is to find a combination that can compete for a full 40 minutes. The Arabs have lost each of their last 10 games by double digits.
Tipoff is set for Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at San Diego Mesa College. Following this game, the Olympians will prepare to host Cuyamaca on Feb. 11, while Imperial Valley will next face Palomar on Feb. 11.
