Saddleback vs Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Riverside Tigers used a dominant second-half performance to pull away from the Saddleback Bobcats for an 80-54 victory in a California Community College Athletic Association men’s basketball game Friday night.

The game, a rematch of a Jan. 14 contest also won by Riverside, was closer than the final score indicated for a half. Saddleback trailed by just seven points at halftime, 33-26, after a first quarter that saw both teams struggle with turnovers and cold shooting. The Bobcats were held to 26 first-half points despite 11 points from Charlie Stallings.

The decisive turning point came early in the second half. Riverside opened the third quarter on a 14-5 run, capitalizing on a series of Saddleback mistakes. The sequence that broke the game open occurred just after halftime. Saddleback’s Christopher Williams committed a turnover on the first possession, which Riverside’s Jabari Harris converted into a layup. Williams turned it over again on the ensuing inbounds pass, leading to a steal and layup by Kollen Murphy, forcing a Saddleback timeout just 53 seconds into the half with the Tigers leading 39-28.

Riverside never relented, outscoring Saddleback 47-28 after halftime. The Tigers’ offensive efficiency was stark, scoring 80 points on just 71 possessions for an offensive rating of 113.0. Saddleback managed only 54 points on 73 trips, an offensive rating of 74.0.

Tylon Williams led all scorers for Riverside with 17 points, adding seven rebounds. He was one of five Tigers to reach double figures, joined by Jabari Harris with 14, Kollen Murphy with 12, and both Kavon Ray and PJ Pounds with 10 points each. Murphy also contributed five assists.

For Saddleback, Charlie Stallings finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Christopher Williams added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists, but also committed several of the Bobcats’ 18 turnovers. Riverside committed only 10 turnovers, leading to a 22-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Tigers also controlled the paint, outrebounding Saddleback 37-33 and scoring 36 points in the lane compared to the Bobcats’ 26. Riverside shot 46.4% from the field overall, while Saddleback was held to 38%.

With the win, Riverside improved to 14-9 overall. Saddleback fell to .500 at 12-12. The Tigers are scheduled to play next at Irvine Valley on Tuesday. Saddleback will host Santa Ana on the same night.
