Cypress vs Orange Coast
Preview: Cypress Chargers at Orange Coast Pirates
COSTA MESA, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Friday night when the Cypress Chargers visit the Orange Coast Pirates in a California community college men’s basketball matchup.
The Chargers (11-10) enter with momentum, coming off a 78-76 home victory over Irvine Valley last Friday. They will face a Pirates squad (1-21) mired in a 10-game losing streak, most recently a 105-62 road defeat to Riverside on Jan. 30.
Cypress, which sits at .500 in conference play, is led by standout Michael Wright. The guard is coming off a strong performance against Irvine Valley, scoring 17 points with four rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 28 minutes. He is complemented by contributors like Jack Rivera (19 points in last game) and Zack Moritz.
Orange Coast, struggling through a difficult season, will look for a spark from forward Collins Udengwu. He logged 28 minutes and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss to Riverside, but scoring has been a persistent team-wide issue. The Pirates have been held under 70 points in 10 of their last 11 games.
The teams met just over three weeks ago, on Jan. 14, with Cypress securing a decisive 68-50 home win. In that contest, the Pirates were limited to 50 points, a recurring theme this season.
Despite the lopsided records and previous result, Interstat’s game simulator projects a highly unusual deadlock, forecasting a 100-100 final score.
For Cypress, this game represents a critical opportunity to build a winning record and gain traction before a tough upcoming stretch featuring games against Fullerton and Saddleback. For Orange Coast, it is a chance to find an offensive rhythm and halt a skid that dates back to a Dec. 30 victory.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Orange Coast College.
