Foothill vs Gavilan

GILROY, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Wednesday night when the Foothill Owls visit the Gavilan Rams in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup.

The Owls (15-8) enter the contest looking to regain momentum after a 77-62 home loss to West Valley last Friday, which followed a narrow 77-73 defeat to Cabrillo. Prior to that two-game skid, Foothill had won three of its previous four, including a dominant 109-54 victory over Hartnell and a 60-58 road win at Monterey Peninsula.

Meanwhile, the Rams (1-21) are mired in a prolonged struggle. Their lone victory this season came on Jan. 23, a 67-60 home win over Hartnell. Gavilan is coming off a 103-43 road loss at San Jose last Friday and has lost 15 of its last 16 games, often by lopsided margins. In their last five outings, the Rams have averaged just 47.8 points per game.

The teams met less than a month ago in Los Altos Hills, with Foothill delivering a 93-51 rout of Gavilan on Jan. 9. The Owls have shown a potent offense at times, scoring 80 or more points in eight games this season. Gavilan has surpassed 70 points only twice.

Despite the clear disparity in records and recent history, a statistical projection from Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a highly unusual 100-100 tie, suggesting potential for an outlier performance.

Following this game, Foothill will host San Jose on Friday, continuing a key stretch in conference play. Gavilan will hit the road Friday to face Monterey Peninsula, seeking to replicate its only win of the season which came against the same Hartnell team that challenged Foothill.

Tip-off is set for Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, at Gavilan College.
