Cuyamaca vs Palomar

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (Interstat) — The Palomar Comets, riding a strong season, will host the Cuyamaca Coyotes in a California community college men’s basketball rematch Wednesday night.

Palomar (14-6) enters with momentum, having won five of its last six games, including a decisive 89-62 victory at Cuyamaca on Jan. 7. The Comets are coming off a 91-77 road win at San Diego Mesa last Friday. Jaidyn Norman has been a key contributor for Palomar, posting a 28-point, 10-rebound performance in a win over Grossmont on Jan. 16 and scoring 25 points in a narrow loss to San Diego City on Jan. 23.

The Cuyamaca Coyotes (9-12) seek to split the season series and build on their most recent result, a 76-57 road win at MiraCosta on Jan. 28. That victory snapped a two-game skid. The Coyotes will lean on guard Jordan Garner, who has been a consistent offensive force. Garner is coming off a 22-point, 9-assist effort in the win over MiraCosta and previously scored 22 points with 9 assists in a Jan. 21 rout of Imperial Valley.

In the first meeting, Palomar dominated, holding Cuyamaca to 62 points. The Comets’ balanced attack and home-court advantage make them the favorite, but the Coyotes’ recent defensive showing at MiraCosta suggests they could pose a stiffer challenge this time.

The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. PST tipoff at the Palomar College Gymnasium. Following this contest, Palomar will host San Diego Miramar on Friday, while Cuyamaca returns home to face San Diego City.
