Orange Coast vs Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Wednesday when the surging Santa Ana Dons host the struggling Orange Coast Pirates in a California community college men’s basketball game.

The Dons (17-4) enter as one of the region’s top teams, while the Pirates (1-21) are mired in a 12-game losing streak. Santa Ana defeated Orange Coast 83-66 in their first meeting this season on Jan. 9.

Santa Ana, however, looks to rebound from back-to-back losses for the first time this season, falling 75-70 at Santiago Canyon and 77-69 to Cypress last week. Guard Aaron De Santiago has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 16.1 points over his last eight games. He scored 21 points in the loss to Santiago Canyon and had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the January win over Orange Coast.

The Pirates’ season has been defined by frustration, with their lone win coming on Dec. 30. They are coming off a 105-62 road loss to Riverside on Jan. 30. Forward Collins Udengwu, who grabbed seven rebounds in that contest, will be a player to watch for Orange Coast. He logged a season-high 28 minutes against Riverside.

For Santa Ana, maintaining focus against a heavy underdog is key as they pursue a conference title. For Orange Coast, the matchup represents another opportunity to search for consistency and an elusive breakthrough against a ranked opponent.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Santa Ana College.
