Moorpark vs Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Moorpark team will look to solidify its standing and complete a regular-season sweep when it visits Santa Barbara City College in a key California community college men’s basketball matchup Saturday.
The Raiders (13-8) have won five of their last six games, including a 92-72 road victory over Los Angeles Pierce on Wednesday. They handed the Vaqueros (10-10) an 81-67 defeat in the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 7.
Moorpark’s recent success has been fueled by balanced scoring and the strong play of sophomore guard Eric Kubel. He is coming off a 21-point, 7-rebound performance against Pierce, his third game with 17 or more points in the last six outings. In the Jan. 7 win over Santa Barbara, Kubel contributed 4 assists.
The Vaqueros, sitting at .500, aim to halt a two-game skid after falling 78-66 at Cuesta on Wednesday. They will rely on forward Jack Berry, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Pierce on Jan. 17. Berry was held to 9 points and 4 rebounds in the first meeting with Moorpark.
Santa Barbara’s home court has provided a slight boost, where they are 6-4 this season compared to a 4-6 road record. Moorpark has shown resilience away from home, posting a 7-5 record in true road games.
This contest marks the midpoint of conference play for both teams. A Moorpark victory would create significant separation in the standings, while a Santa Barbara win would level the season series and keep the Vaqueros in the postseason hunt.
Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion on the Santa Barbara City College campus.
