MiraCosta vs Imperial Valley

MiraCosta Seeks Road Win Against Winless Imperial Valley in California JUCO Matchup

IMPERIAL, Calif. (Interstat) — The MiraCosta Spartans look to steady their season against the struggling Imperial Valley Arabs in a California community college men’s basketball game Friday night.

MiraCosta (8-11) enters the contest having lost three of its last four, including a narrow 58-54 defeat at San Diego Mesa on Monday. The Spartans will be heavily favored against an Imperial Valley team still searching for its first victory of the season at 0-19.

The Arabs have faced relentless struggles, losing by an average margin of 36.5 points in their last four games. Their most recent outing was a 89-54 loss at Cuyamaca on Jan. 21.

History strongly favors the Spartans, who dominated the first meeting this season, a 100-60 home victory over Imperial Valley on Jan. 3. In that game, MiraCosta’s defense forced numerous turnovers that fueled its transition offense.

A key player for MiraCosta is forward Logan Mason, who is coming off a dominant double-double performance in the loss to San Diego Mesa, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 36 minutes. His consistent inside presence will be a focal point for the Spartans’ attack. He was complemented by guard Elijah Samdahl’s 14 points in that contest.

For Imperial Valley, halting its lengthy skid will require a significant defensive improvement and finding consistent scoring options. The Arabs have surrendered 100 or more points four times this season.

Despite the stark records, Interstat’s game simulator projects an unusually tight final score of 100-100, suggesting a potential for a high-scoring affair.

Following this game, MiraCosta will host Grossmont on Feb. 4. Imperial Valley continues a difficult stretch, traveling to face San Diego City on Feb. 4.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Imperial Valley College.
