De Anza vs San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Friday night when the state-leading San Francisco Rams host the struggling De Anza Mountain Lions in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup.
The Rams (19-1), whose lone loss came in mid-December, enter as one of the state’s dominant forces. They have won nine consecutive games, most recently a 98-56 rout of Skyline last Friday. Their average margin of victory during this streak is 28 points, showcasing a relentless both offensively and defensively.
Conversely, the Mountain Lions (9-11) are mired in a difficult stretch, having lost five of their last six games. They are coming off a devastating 90-51 home loss to Chabot, a performance they will urgently need to put behind them. Their season has been marked by inconsistency, with narrow victories like a 90-89 overtime win against Canada College followed by lopsided defeats.
This will be the second meeting between the teams this season. On Jan. 7, San Francisco handed De Anza a decisive 102-79 loss in Cupertino. The Rams’ high-powered offense proved too much, a theme they have sustained throughout conference play.
For San Francisco, the game represents another opportunity to solidify their top seeding and continue their march toward the postseason. The Rams have benefited from balanced scoring and stifling defense, holding opponents to an average of just 60.2 points over their last five games.
De Anza faces a monumental challenge to disrupt the Rams’ rhythm. The Mountain Lions will need to significantly improve their defensive focus and find scoring beyond their recent outputs to be competitive. Guarding against an early San Francisco run will be critical to avoid a repeat of their previous encounter.
Friday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. at San Francisco’s gym. Following this game, San Francisco will host Canada College on Wednesday, while De Anza will prepare to host Las Positas on Feb. 4.
