Orange Coast vs Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Friday night when the Riverside City College Tigers host the Orange Coast College Pirates in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup.

The Tigers (11-8) enter riding a wave of momentum, having won three of their last four games, including a decisive 73-56 road victory over Cypress last Friday. Riverside’s success is fueled by sophomore guard Kollen Murphy, who is averaging 19.2 points over his last six contests. Murphy torched the Pirates for 21 points in just 26 minutes during an 83-56 rout on Jan. 7.

Conversely, Orange Coast (1-19) is mired in a 10-game losing streak since its lone win on Dec. 30. The Pirates are coming off a 96-68 defeat at Fullerton last Friday, a game in which they allowed an opponent to score 90-plus points for the eighth time this season.

Despite the team’s struggles, freshman forward Chris Obiajulu has been a consistent bright spot for Orange Coast. He is averaging 15.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game over his last six outings, including a 17-point, 9-rebound performance against Riverside in the first meeting. Containing Murphy and finding secondary scoring behind Obiajulu will be critical for the Pirates to avoid a repeat of the 27-point loss they suffered three weeks ago.

For Riverside, the focus will be on maintaining its defensive intensity after holding Cypress to 56 points. Jabari Harris (14 points) and Tylon Williams (11 points) provided key support alongside Murphy in that win. The Tigers will look to exploit their home court advantage and improve their standing in the conference race before a pivotal road test at Fullerton next Wednesday.

Orange Coast continues its difficult schedule at Santa Ana on Feb. 4, while Riverside travels to Fullerton the same night.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. PST at Riverside City College.
