Santa Barbara vs Cuesta

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Santa Barbara Vaqueros visit the Cuesta Cougars on Wednesday night in a California community college men’s basketball matchup featuring teams heading in opposite directions.

Santa Barbara (10-9) looks to rebound from a 75-64 home loss to Allan Hancock on Jan. 21. The Vaqueros had won two of their previous three, including a 72-62 road victory over Los Angeles Pierce on Jan. 17.

Cuesta (7-14) arrives with momentum after an 82-78 overtime road win against that same Pierce team on Saturday. The Cougars’ victory snapped a four-game skid.

A key matchup will be in the frontcourt, where Santa Barbara’s Jack Berry faces Cuesta’s Aiden Pearsall-Morgan. Berry is coming off a strong 18-point, 8-rebound performance in the loss to Hancock and has averaged 15 points over his last five games. Pearsall-Morgan logged 40 minutes and tallied 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the overtime win at Pierce, serving as a crucial facilitator for the Cougars.

In their last meeting, Santa Barbara defeated Cuesta 81-72 on Dec. 13. The teams will meet again in Santa Barbara on Feb. 20.

The Vaqueros have shown a balanced attack recently, with Dante Calhoun (14 points) and Brycen Matthews (13 points) providing scoring support alongside Berry in the last outing. Cuesta’s win at Pierce was also a collective effort, with Corbin Rossi (14 points, 5 rebounds) and Ryan McNamee (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) contributing heavily.

Tipoff is set for Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Cuesta College. Santa Barbara visits Moorpark on Jan. 31, while Cuesta travels to face Allan Hancock on Feb. 4.
