Shasta vs Butte
BUTTE, Calif. (Interstat) — A pair of California community college men’s basketball teams heading in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Butte Roadrunners host the Shasta Knights.
The Roadrunners (9-12) enter the contest with momentum, coming off a 99-90 road victory over Siskiyous on Wednesday. They will face a Knights squad that, despite a 2-20 overall record, is fresh off one of its best results of the season—a 62-57 home win over Lassen on Jan. 21.
That victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Shasta, which has struggled to find consistency. Beyond the win over Lassen, the Knights’ only other victory this season was a 79-68 decision over Mendocino on Dec. 12. Their season has been marred by two forfeits in late December.
Butte has shown more firepower, averaging higher scores in recent contests. Their offensive output will be tested against a Shasta team that has allowed 85 or more points in seven games this season.
A player to watch for the Knights is Trenton Gorden, though his recent playing time has been limited. In the win over Lassen, Gorden logged one minute, a pattern seen in his previous two appearances against Feather River and Redwoods.
The Roadrunners’ schedule shows a balanced attack was key in their recent win, with multiple contributors helping to reach 99 points. They will look to exploit a Shasta defense that has frequently yielded high point totals.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this matchup is projected to be a high-scoring and dead-even affair, with a predicted final score of Butte 100, Shasta 100.
This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They are scheduled to play again at Shasta on Monday, Feb. 16.
Saturday’s tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Butte College.
