Skyline vs San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Friday night when the state-leading San Francisco Rams host the struggling Skyline Trojans in a California Community College Athletic Association men’s basketball game.
The Rams (17-1), whose only loss came to West Valley on Dec. 18, enter as one of the state’s dominant forces. They are riding a seven-game winning streak, including an 80-54 rout of San Mateo last Friday. San Francisco has won its games by an average margin of 22.2 points during this stretch, showcasing a deep and balanced attack.
Player to watch for the Rams is Elliot Conley, who is coming off a 17-point, 4-rebound performance in a win at Ohlone on Jan. 14. San Francisco’s defense has been particularly stifling, holding opponents to an average of just 59.1 points over their last seven contests.
They face a Skyline team (8-10) mired in a five-game losing streak. The Trojans are coming off a 95-65 home defeat to Las Positas last Friday, part of a difficult January where they have lost by an average of 17.6 points.
The Trojans’ hope rests largely on the shoulders of standout Zidane Auzarang. Despite his team’s struggles, Auzarang has posted impressive numbers, including a 29-point, 10-rebound effort in a narrow 67-64 loss at San Mateo on Jan. 14. He followed that with 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists against Ohlone on Jan. 9. Containing him will be a key focus for the Rams’ defense.
Historically, the matchup presents a clear favorite. However, Interstat’s game simulator projects an improbable 100-100 tie, suggesting the potential for a high-scoring affair if Skyline can find its offensive rhythm alongside Auzarang.
The game will tip off at 7 p.m. PST on Jan. 23 at San Francisco’s main gymnasium. Following this contest, San Francisco will travel to face Las Positas on Jan. 28, while Skyline prepares to host De Anza on the same date. The two teams will meet again in Hillsborough on Feb. 18.
