Palo Verde vs Mount San Jacinto

SAN JACINTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Mount San Jacinto Eagles dominated from the opening tip, overwhelming the visiting Palo Verde Pirates 118-84 in a California Community College Athletic Association men’s basketball game Saturday.

The outcome was rarely in doubt as the Eagles, now 13-6 overall, used superior size, efficiency, and a relentless transition attack to build a commanding lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Pirates fell to 3-15.

The most decisive stretch of the game occurred in the opening minutes, setting a chaotic and ultimately unmanageable tone for Palo Verde. After a missed layup by the Pirates on the game’s first possession, Mount San Jacinto’s Adrian Mosley answered with a layup just 12 seconds in. Palo Verde’s Salameh Dugum-Maraboto then scored five quick points, but the Eagles immediately responded with a disciplined parade to the free-throw line, capitalizing on early Palo Verde fouls.

This pattern defined the first quarter. The Pirates struggled with ball security and defensive discipline, committing numerous turnovers and fouls that fueled the Eagles’ offense. Mount San Jacinto converted frequent Pirate mistakes into easy scoring opportunities, particularly in the paint and at the charity stripe. The Eagles shot 32 free throws in the first half alone, making 23, as they built a 63-57 lead by the end of the first quarter despite Dugum-Maraboto’s 20-point period for Palo Verde.

The second quarter saw Mount San Jacinto extend its control, outscoring Palo Verde 55-27. The Eagles’ offensive rating of 132.7 points per 100 possessions dwarfed the Pirates’ 95.3, highlighting the stark difference in execution. Mount San Jacinto shot 54% from the floor compared to Palo Verde’s 38%, and owned a dominant 50-28 advantage in total rebounds, including a 14-5 edge on the offensive glass.

Adrian Mosley, the top star for Mount San Jacinto, powered the victory with 24 points and 15 rebounds in just 26 minutes of play. He was one of six Eagles to score in double figures. Willie Miller added 19 points and nine rebounds, RJ Dawson scored 14 points with seven rebounds, and Joseph Boddie facilitated the offense with eight assists.

Palo Verde was led by Salameh Dugum-Maraboto’s game-high 33 points in 40 minutes. Adam Hubbard contributed 21 points for the Pirates, who were hampered by 16 turnovers and only three assists as a team.

Mount San Jacinto next travels to face Victor Valley on Wednesday. Palo Verde returns home to host San Bernardino Valley, also on Wednesday.
