Las Positas vs Skyline

High-Flying Hawks Visit Trojans in Key California Junior College Clash

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (Interstat) — A matchup of starkly contrasting trajectories highlights the California community college men’s basketball slate Friday as the state-leading Las Positas Hawks visit the .500 Skyline Trojans.

The Hawks (14-1), whose only loss came by two points to San Jose on Jan. 3, enter on a seven-game winning streak and have been dominant. Their average margin of victory during that stretch is 21.1 points, including an 82-71 win over De Anza last Friday. Las Positas has scored 90 or more points in six games this season, showcasing a potent offense.

Skyline (8-8) looks to stabilize after dropping its last two contests. The Trojans fell 79-69 to Ohlone last Friday despite a standout performance from guard Zidane Auzarang, who posted 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Auzarang has been a consistent force, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over his last two games, including a 14-point effort in a Dec. 20 rout of Solano.

The Trojans’ season has been a rollercoaster, with a three-game winning streak in December followed by their recent skid. They will need a disciplined defensive effort to slow a Las Positas attack that has proven capable of explosive outputs.

For Las Positas, the game represents a chance to solidify its top ranking and continue building momentum before a rematch with these same Trojans in Livermore on Feb. 11. Skyline seeks a statement victory to climb back above .500 and prove it can compete with the state’s elite.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Skyline College.
