Marin vs Mendocino
MEN’S JUNIOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL PREVIEW
UKIAH, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Marin team visits a struggling Mendocino squad in a California community college men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Mendocino College.
The Mariners (11-5) enter on a high note after a 71-63 home victory over Merritt on Thursday. They have won two of their last three, with the lone loss in that span a narrow 107-103 road defeat at Los Medanos on Jan. 6.
The host Eagles (5-12) look to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 72-80 loss at Napa Valley on Thursday. Their last win was a notable 64-61 road victory at Solano on Dec. 30, a game in which standout Rob Salmon shined.
Salmon is the key player to watch for Mendocino. In that win over Solano, he logged 38 minutes, scoring 21 points with nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks, demonstrating his all-around impact.
Marin has shown both high-scoring capability and resilience, with wins in close games against Chabot (72-70) and Diablo Valley (93-92) earlier this season. However, consistency has been an issue, evidenced by lopsided losses to opponents like Contra Costa (98-79) and West Valley (109-80).
Mendocino’s season has been defined by offensive struggles and defensive lapses, suffering several heavy defeats, including a 108-59 loss at Yuba and an 84-59 home loss to Alameda. The Eagles will need a significant performance to challenge the Mariners’ winning record.
Despite the disparity in records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a dead-even contest, forecasting a 100-100 final score.
This game opens a critical stretch for both teams in conference play. Marin’s next game is at home against Solano on Jan. 14. Mendocino travels to face Los Medanos on the same date.
Saturday’s tip-off is set for 3 p.m. PST at Mendocino College.
