Sequoias vs Reedley
REEDLEY, Calif. (Interstat) — A key early-season California Community College men’s basketball matchup is set for Saturday when the Reedley Tigers host the Sequoias Giants.
The game tips off at 5 p.m. on Jan. 10 at Reedley College.
Both teams enter with winning records and look to build momentum in conference play. Sequoias (10-5) is coming off a dominant 97-59 victory over Coalinga on Wednesday. Reedley (9-6) looks to bounce back after an 80-88 home loss to Lemoore the same night.
A marquee individual battle will feature Sequoias’ versatile forward Mason Dorsey against Reedley’s high-scoring guard Nassef Lubowa. Dorsey is averaging a near triple-double over his last five games, posting 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists in the win over Coalinga. His all-around play has been a catalyst for the Giants.
Lubowa, meanwhile, is a dynamic scorer for the Tigers. He erupted for 35 points in just one minute of play in the loss to Lemoore, following a 22-point performance in a win over Skyline. His offensive explosiveness will be central to Reedley’s game plan.
Sequoias has shown a potent offense, scoring 99 and 121 points in two of its past five games, but also suffered narrow losses to Citrus and Ventura. Reedley’s results have been volatile, with decisive wins over Shasta and Siskiyous but lopsided losses to Las Positas and Cosumnes River.
The Giants won the last meeting between the programs. This contest will serve as the first of two regular-season matchups, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 4 in Visalia.
The outcome will impact the early standings as both teams navigate a challenging Central Valley Conference schedule. Sequoias aims to leverage its balanced attack and recent blowout win, while Reedley hopes home court and Lubowa’s hot hand can propel them to an upset.
