Shasta vs Siskiyous

WEED, Calif. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking to reverse difficult seasons will meet Saturday when the Shasta Knights visit the Siskiyous Eagles.

The California community college matchup pits a Siskiyous squad (5-13) looking to end a three-game skid against a Shasta team (1-18) mired in a prolonged losing streak. The Knights’ only victory this season came on Dec. 12, a 79-68 win over Mendocino. Since then, Shasta has lost seven consecutive contests, including its last five by an average margin of 22.4 points. Their most recent outing was an 82-70 home loss to Redwoods on Wednesday.

Siskiyous also enters on a losing note, falling 62-51 at Lassen on Wednesday. The Eagles have shown sporadic flashes, including a narrow 49-48 road win at Merced on Dec. 17, but have struggled for consistency. Their defense will be tested against a Shasta team that, despite its record, has several capable scorers.

A player to watch for the Knights is Cheik Diop, who was among the team’s most productive players in the loss to Redwoods. Shasta will need a significant performance from him and others like Trenton Gorden and Anthony Sanchez to compete.

Interestingly, a Interstat game simulator projects a dead-even final score of 100-100, suggesting a potentially high-scoring and tightly contested game despite the teams’ combined 6-31 record.

The game will be the first of two meetings between the programs this season, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 4 in Redding. For both Siskiyous and Shasta, Saturday represents a critical opportunity to build momentum as the conference schedule intensifies. Siskiyous will hit the road to face Redwoods on Jan. 17, while Shasta will host Feather River the same day.
