Santa Rosa vs Sierra
Top-10 California JUCO Clash Set as Santa Rosa Visits Sierra
ROCKLIN, Calif. (Interstat) — A pivotal early conference matchup in California junior college men’s basketball is set for Saturday when the No. 7-ranked Santa Rosa Bear Cubs visit the Sierra Wolverines.
The Bear Cubs (13-2) enter on a five-game winning streak, most recently edging Cosumnes River 61-60 on Thursday. Sierra (11-4) looks to build momentum after a commanding 92-68 home victory over Folsom Lake the same night.
Santa Rosa’s offense runs through sophomore guard Spencer Langowski, who is coming off a career-defining performance. In Thursday’s narrow win, Langowski poured in 25 points, including the decisive free throws in the final seconds, to go with two assists. His scoring surge provides a potent complement to forward Travis Hightower, who controlled the glass with 12 rebounds and two blocks against Cosumnes River.
The Wolverines counter with a balanced attack that has seen them average 89 points in their last two home games. Their 11-4 record includes a quality win over then-Fresno City and a narrow 92-87 road loss to a strong Modesto team on Jan. 6. Sierra’s ability to force turnovers and convert in transition will be key against a disciplined Santa Rosa squad.
Santa Rosa’s two losses this season were by a combined 11 points, showcasing their consistency. However, their road test at Sierra represents one of their toughest challenges to date. The Wolverines have proven formidable at home, boasting a 6-1 record on their own court.
This contest marks the first of a regular-season home-and-home series between the programs, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 10 in Santa Rosa. The outcome will provide early positioning in the chase for the conference title and playoff seeding.
Saturday’s tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Sierra College. The Wolverines hit the road next to face San Joaquin Delta on Tuesday, while the Bear Cubs travel to Sacramento City.
