Santa Barbara vs Oxnard
Preview: Santa Barbara Vaqueros at Oxnard Condors
OXNARD, Calif. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams looking to halt slides will meet Saturday when the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros visit the Oxnard College Condors.
Santa Barbara (8-7) enters the non-conference matchup having lost three straight, most recently a 67-81 defeat at Moorpark on Wednesday. Oxnard (5-10) is also seeking to end a three-game skid after falling 70-77 at Allan Hancock on the same night.
The Vaqueros will lean on guard James Reach, who has been a consistent performer during their recent struggles. Reach is averaging 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds over his last four games, including a 15-point, 6-rebound effort in the loss to Moorpark. Brycen Matthews, who added 13 points and five rebounds in that game, provides secondary scoring.
The Condors counter with forward Carter Reid, their leading scorer in the loss to Allan Hancock with 21 points and five rebounds. Reid has been a bright spot, averaging 16.3 points and 6.3 rebounds over his last three contests. Guard Ruben Jimenez, who dished out six assists on Wednesday, will be key in facilitating the offense.
Historically, these intra-county rivals have played tight games, adding another layer to the contest. Both teams are looking to build momentum before diving deeper into their conference schedules next week.
For Santa Barbara, a victory would snap their losing streak and get them back above .500. For Oxnard, a win at home would provide a needed boost for a team that has struggled to find consistency this season.
The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tipoff at Condor Center on the Oxnard College campus.
