Palomar vs San Diego Miramar
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — A surging Palomar men’s basketball team will look to continue its winning ways when it visits San Diego Miramar in a California community college matchup Friday night.
The Comets (9-4) have won four of their last five games, most recently a dominant 109-67 victory over San Diego Mesa on Jan. 3. They will be challenged by a Jets squad (5-8) seeking consistency after a narrow 58-57 win at Cerritos on Dec. 22 snapped a four-game losing streak.
Palomar’s offense runs through sophomore forward Isaiah Pomare, who is coming off a standout performance. Against San Diego Mesa, Pomare posted 23 points and 12 rebounds in just 27 minutes. He has been a key factor in the Comets’ recent success, including a crucial role in an 88-87 overtime win against Pasadena City on Dec. 30.
Complementing Pomare are guards Tore-Andre Gray, who scored 22 points in the last outing, and Benjie Nudo, who nearly recorded a triple-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
San Diego Miramar will counter with guard Christian Washington, who led the Jets with 21 points in their gritty win at Cerritos. Forward Dimetrius Simpson added eight rebounds and five points in that contest.
The Jets have struggled offensively at times, scoring 60 points or less in four of their eight losses. They will need to find an answer for Palomar’s balanced attack, which has averaged 88.5 points over its last two games.
Historically, this intra-city rivalry often produces close contests. The teams will meet again at Palomar on Feb. 6.
Friday’s game tips off at 5 p.m. PST at Miramar College. The Jets open a three-game homestand, while the Comets continue a stretch playing four of their next five on the road.
