Rio Hondo vs Compton
COMPTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Friday when the Rio Hondo Roadrunners visit the Compton Tartars in a California community college men’s basketball matchup.
Both teams enter with identical 6-8 overall records, though Rio Hondo (6-8) has won three of its last four games. The Roadrunners are coming off a nearly three-week break since their last outing, a narrow 84-83 home victory over Antelope Valley on Dec. 19. Bobby Reyes led the way in that win with 29 points, while Ryan Osborne added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Compton (6-8) last played on Jan. 2, securing a dominant 89-47 win over Los Angeles City. The Tartars are powered by standout guard Keyshawn Ross Jr., who erupted for 33 points, eight rebounds and three assists in that victory. Ross Jr. is a dynamic scoring threat who will be the focal point of Rio Hondo’s defensive plans.
The Tartars have shown volatility, following their 42-point win with a list of results that includes several double-digit losses. Consistency has also been a challenge for the Roadrunners, whose current winning streak follows a 1-5 stretch in late November and early December.
Friday’s contest represents a key opportunity for either squad to climb above .500 and build confidence ahead of the heart of conference play. Rio Hondo will look to its balanced attack, which featured three scorers in double figures in its last win, to counter Compton’s high-powered offense led by Ross Jr.
Tip-off is set for Friday evening at Compton College.
