Fullerton vs Riverside
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Fullerton College men’s basketball team, boasting one of the state’s best records, will face a Riverside College squad seeking consistency in a California community college matchup Friday night.
The visiting Hornets (13-1) enter on a five-game winning streak, their lone loss a narrow 39-37 defeat at Santa Monica on Dec. 17. They are led by standout Yoda Oke, who has been dominant in recent weeks. Oke is averaging 20.5 points and 7.8 rebounds over his last four games, including a 33-point outburst against Mount San Jacinto and a 22-point, 9-rebound performance in a 78-66 win at San Diego City on Dec. 30.
In that most recent victory, Fullerton also received significant contributions from Brayden Smith and Donovan Pitts, who each scored 17 points. The Hornets’ offense has been potent, scoring 78 or more points in three of their last five contests.
The Riverside Tigers (7-6) have alternated wins and losses over their past six games and are looking to rebound from a lopsided 109-76 road loss to Citrus on Dec. 19. In that game, Kollen Murphy led Riverside with 22 points and five rebounds. The Tigers have shown resilience at home this season, with notable victories over San Bernardino Valley and Ventura in early December.
Friday’s game will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 4 in Fullerton. It represents a key early conference test for the Hornets as they aim to maintain their momentum, while the Tigers hope to leverage home court to secure a statement win against a top-tier opponent.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Riverside College.
