Santa Ana vs Orange Coast

COSTA MESA, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Friday night when the undefeated Santa Ana Dons visit the struggling Orange Coast Pirates in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup.

The Dons (13-0) enter as one of the state’s hottest teams, having dispatched every opponent by an average margin of 18.2 points. Their most recent victory was a 91-85 win over Los Angeles Trade Tech last Friday, powered by a career-high 33 points from sophomore guard Aaron De Santiago. He has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 19 points per game over his last three contests.

Conversely, Orange Coast (1-13) has endured a difficult season, with its lone win an 87-80 road victory at Santa Barbara on Dec. 30. In that game, freshman forward Chris Obiajulu scored 23 points, showcasing the potential that has made him a bright spot for the Pirates. He is averaging 15.2 points over his last five games.

Despite the lopsided records, a statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a dramatic 100-100 tie, suggesting the potential for a high-scoring affair. For that to materialize, Orange Coast must find a way to slow De Santiago and a deep Santa Ana roster that features secondary scorers like Joshua Garland and Christien Jimenez.

The Dons will look to extend their perfect start before a challenging conference slate continues next week. The Pirates seek to build on their sole victory and find an upset to reverse their season’s trajectory. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Orange Coast College.
