Lawson State vs Wallace State
HANCEVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — The Wallace State Lions will look to sweep the season series and solidify a winning record when they host the Lawson State Cougars in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Thursday night.
The Lions (13-12) enter the contest having won two of their last three, including a 109-101 victory over Calhoun on Monday. They previously defeated the Cougars (7-16) 102-88 on Feb. 5 in their first meeting this season.
Wallace State’s consistency has been anchored by forward Tyson Barrett. In the Feb. 5 win over Lawson State, Barrett recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He is coming off another strong performance, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds in Monday’s win.
Lawson State, meanwhile, seeks to halt a two-game skid and avenge its earlier loss to the Lions. The Cougars are led by guard Keaton Cross, who is coming off a spectacular individual effort in a 98-91 loss at Bishop State on Monday. Cross poured in 32 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished five assists in that contest. Teammates Jayden Bynes (22 points) and Yusef Bowyer (20 points) also provided significant scoring.
The Cougars’ season has been marked by offensive flashes but defensive struggles, having allowed 90 or more points in 10 of their 16 losses. In their last meeting, Wallace State exploited those defensive issues to score a season-high 102 points.
For the Lions, balance beyond Barrett will be key. In their recent win, Jaeden Rush and Trey Knight each added 15 points and seven assists. Wallace State has shown the ability to win high-scoring affairs, averaging 88 points per game in their 13 victories.
The game tips off at 7 p.m. CST on March 5 at Tom Drake Coliseum. Wallace State will aim to improve to 8-5 at home, while Lawson State looks to improve upon a 3-9 road record.
