Frank Phillips vs Western Texas

Preview: Frank Phillips Plainsmen at Western Texas Westerners

BORGER, Texas (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking to end difficult stretches will meet Thursday when the Western Texas Westerners host the Frank Phillips Plainsmen.

The game, scheduled for March 5, 2026, will be the second meeting this season between the Westerners (11-15) and Plainsmen (7-19). Western Texas earned a 79-75 overtime victory on the road on Feb. 2.

Both teams enter on losing streaks. Frank Phillips has dropped seven consecutive games since its last win on Feb. 9. The Plainsmen are coming off a 99-70 road loss to New Mexico on Feb. 26, where Bryceson Dobie scored 16 points. Dobie has been a consistent performer for Frank Phillips, averaging 10.6 points per game over his last seven contests, including a 14-point effort in the team’s last victory.

Western Texas has lost three straight, most recently a 79-71 defeat at Midland on March 2. Anesu Dehwe led the Westerners in that loss with 17 points and eight rebounds. Dehwe has shown scoring punch for Western Texas, posting 22 points in a win over Clarendon on Feb. 23 and 21 points against New Mexico on Feb. 9.

The February matchup between these teams was tightly contested, suggesting another competitive game is possible despite the teams’ records. Frank Phillips will look to avenge the overtime loss and snap its lengthy skid, while Western Texas aims to stabilize its season by defending its home court and sweeping the season series.

Tipoff is set for Thursday night at Western Texas College.
