Calhoun vs Wallace State

HANCEVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — A pivotal late-season men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Monday when the Calhoun Warhawks visit the Wallace State Lions.

Both teams enter the contest seeking momentum as the regular season winds down. Calhoun (13-10) holds a narrow edge in the standings over Wallace State (12-12), but the Lions will have home-court advantage and revenge on their minds. The Warhawks won the previous meeting this season, 88-82 at home on Feb. 2.

Calhoun arrives looking to snap a two-game skid, having lost to Gadsden State and Lawson State in its last two outings. The Warhawks’ offense has been inconsistent, scoring 104 points in a win on Feb. 19 but being held to 61 in a loss to Bishop State on Feb. 5.

Wallace State has also struggled recently, dropping three of its last four games, including a 102-90 loss at Coastal Alabama on Feb. 26. The Lions’ defense will be a focal point after allowing an average of 94.5 points in those three defeats.

A key player to watch for Wallace State is Viczavious Madden, who has been a consistent scoring force. He poured in 24 points and grabbed six rebounds in the first game against Calhoun this season. In his last five games, Madden is averaging 15.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest.

For Calhoun, Johnathan Johnson emerges as a player to watch following a recent breakout performance. After playing minimal minutes in three straight games, Johnson logged 19 minutes and contributed 11 points and seven rebounds in the loss to Gadsden State on Feb. 23. His continued production could provide a vital boost for the Warhawks.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Tom Drake Coliseum. Following this matchup, Calhoun will host Bishop State on Thursday, while Wallace State will host Lawson State.
