MIDLAND (Interstat) — The Midland Chaparrals defeated the Western Texas Westerners 79-71 in a men’s junior college basketball game Monday night. Midland improved to 23-4 overall, while Western Texas fell to 11-15.

The Chaparrals, led by Yeison Liberato’s 16 points and five assists, used a high-powered offense to secure the win. Midland scored 38 points in the first quarter and 41 in the second to build a lead it would not relinquish.

Isak Homelius scored a game-high 22 points for the Westerners, and Anesu Dehwe added 17 points and eight rebounds. The result avenged Midland’s 89-74 loss at Western Texas on Jan. 29.
