Southwest Tennessee vs Pellissippi State

Struggling JUCO Programs Seek Momentum in Saturday Rematch

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams mired in difficult seasons will meet for a second time this year when the Pellissippi State Panthers host the Southwest Tennessee Saluqis on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Both squads enter the contest looking to halt extended losing streaks. The visiting Saluqis (2-14) have dropped five consecutive games since their last victory on Feb. 14. The Panthers (6-16) have lost three straight, most recently a 99-55 drubbing by Walters State on Feb. 18, though they did secure a 104-97 road win at Volunteer State on Feb. 21.

The matchup is a rematch of a tightly contested Jan. 17 game, which Pellissippi State won 79-77 in Memphis. That result will likely provide a psychological edge for the Panthers, who will look to complete a regular-season sweep on their home floor.

A key player to watch for Southwest Tennessee is forward Abdoul Sacko. He has been a consistent defensive and rebounding presence, averaging a double-double over his last five full games played. In a Feb. 14 win over Motlow State, he nearly posted a triple-double with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 8 blocks. In the Saluqis’ most recent loss to Columbia State, Sacko contributed 11 rebounds and 4 blocks.

For Pellissippi State, guard Raza Majid has seen limited minutes in recent contests but showcased shot-blocking ability with 4 blocks in just 10 minutes against Columbia State on Feb. 9.

Southwest Tennessee’s offense has struggled, failing to reach 80 points in any of its last six games. Pellissippi State’s defense has been vulnerable, allowing 99 and 110 points in two of its last four home games.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest is projected to be an even affair, forecasting a 100-100 tie. Both teams will be desperate to defy that parity and secure a rare win before moving into March schedule play.

Following this game, Southwest Tennessee will host Roane State on Monday, March 2. Pellissippi State will also be at home on March 2, facing Motlow State.
