Southern Crescent vs Central Georgia

MACON, Ga. (Interstat) — Roosevelt Brown scored 20 points and led a dominant second-half surge as the Central Georgia Technical College Titans defeated the Southern Crescent Technical College Tigers 91-78 in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.

The game turned decisively in the second half after a competitive opening period. Southern Crescent held a narrow 36-32 lead at halftime, but Central Georgia erupted after the break, outscoring the Tigers 59-42 in the second half to secure the victory.

The most important part of the game was Central Georgia’s overwhelming defensive pressure and offensive efficiency coming out of halftime. The Titans forced Southern Crescent into a series of costly turnovers early in the second half, converting them into easy transition baskets to quickly erase the deficit and build a commanding lead. A key sequence saw Central Georgia’s Brown record a steal and score on a layup, part of a larger run that shifted momentum permanently in favor of the home team.

Brown, the top star for Central Georgia, filled the stat sheet with 20 points, five assists, three rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 36 minutes. He was supported by Kaziaes Hemphill, who added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Traveion Wheeler, who contributed 15 points off the bench.

Southern Crescent was led by Austin Walker’s 18 points and six rebounds. Khaven Coachran scored 15 points and Mouhamed Mbodj added 12 for the Tigers.

Central Georgia improved its season record to 13-7, while Southern Crescent fell to 2-16. The Titans have now won both meetings between the teams this week, having also defeated the Tigers 85-62 on Friday.

Statistically, Central Georgia’s victory was built on superior shooting and defensive presence. The Titans shot 57 percent from the floor, making 35 of 61 field goal attempts. Southern Crescent shot 48 percent, going 29 for 61. Central Georgia also blocked eight shots and recorded 13 steals, capitalizing on Southern Crescent’s 20 turnovers.

Despite attempting nine more free throws, Southern Crescent struggled at the line, making only 13 of 23 attempts. Central Georgia made 17 of 25 from the foul line.

Both teams committed a similar number of turnovers and fouls in a physically played game. Central Georgia held a slight rebounding edge, 32-31.

The Titans’ offensive rating of 106.0 on 86 possessions outpaced the Tigers’ rating of 97.6 on 80 possessions, underscoring the efficiency of Central Georgia’s second-half explosion.

Central Georgia next plays at Albany Tech on Wednesday. Southern Crescent hosts South Georgia State on Monday.
