Harcum Bears Set for Rematch at Allegany (Md.) Trojans
CUMBERLAND, Md. (Interstat) — A key men’s junior college basketball rematch is set for Saturday when the Harcum Bears visit the Allegany (Md.) Trojans.
The Bears (10-5) enter looking to avenge an 89-81 home loss to the Trojans on Jan. 17, the only previous meeting this season. Allegany (Md.) (7-3) aims to complete the regular-season sweep and solidify its standing.
Harcum arrives with momentum from a 75-56 road victory at Baltimore City on Thursday. The Bears are led by guard Willie Sheppard III, who scored 21 points with four assists in that win. Forward Bryce Adams added a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Trojans counter with their own recent success, having won two straight, including a 77-64 win at Baltimore City on Wednesday. Forward Darrien Ponder has been a consistent force for Allegany, posting 14 points and six rebounds in that contest after a seven-point, seven-rebound, three-assist performance in a 101-72 rout of Hagerstown on Monday.
Harcum’s season has featured notable swings, including a three-game win streak earlier this month snapped by a loss to Monroe. Allegany has been strong at home, boasting decisive wins over Hagerstown and Baltimore City in Cumberland this season.
The matchup pits Harcum’s offensive balance, featuring Sheppard III and Adams, against an Allegany squad that has shown high-scoring potential, eclipsing 100 points once and 88 points on three other occasions this campaign.
Saturday’s tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bob Kirk Arena on the campus of Allegany College of Maryland.
