Wallace State vs Coastal Alabama
Wallace State Looks to Sweep Season Series Against Coastal Alabama
BAY MINETTE, Ala. (Interstat) — The Wallace State Lions visit the Coastal Alabama Sun Chiefs on Thursday in a men’s junior college basketball matchup featuring two teams heading in opposite directions.
Wallace State (12-11) enters the contest looking to stabilize its season after a 61-71 loss at Shelton State on Monday. The Lions had won two of their previous three games before that defeat.
Coastal Alabama (4-18) seeks to halt a four-game skid, most recently a 78-101 loss at Bishop State on Monday. The Sun Chiefs’ last victory was a 98-90 win at Lawson State on Feb. 16.
The Lions won the first meeting this season, 108-87, at home on Jan. 29. In that game, Wallace State’s Viczavious Madden dominated with 22 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Madden, a key player to watch, is averaging 17.6 points and 7.7 rebounds over his last seven contests, including a 15-point, 8-rebound performance in Monday’s loss.
Coastal Alabama will counter with forward Makhi Jones, who scored 20 points in the January loss to Wallace State. Jones has been a bright spot during the Sun Chiefs’ struggles, averaging 27.1 points and 10.0 rebounds over his last five games. He erupted for 38 points in the win over Lawson State.
Wallace State’s recent results show a pattern of high-scoring affairs, with the team averaging 90.2 points over its last five games but also allowing 91.2 over that stretch. Coastal Alabama’s defense has been a season-long issue, conceding an average of 99.3 points in its last three outings.
Despite the records, a projection from Interstat’s game simulator anticipates a tightly contested rematch, predicting a 100-100 final score.
The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Coastal Alabama-South.
