Redlands vs Seminole State (Okla.)
SEMINOLE, Okla. (Interstat) — The Redlands Community College Cougars will seek to avenge a lopsided loss from earlier this season when they visit the Seminole State College Trojans in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Thursday night.
The Trojans (13-7) dominated the first meeting, routing the visiting Cougars 90-65 on Jan. 31. That game is part of a recent surge for Seminole State, which has won seven of its last 10 contests. The Trojans are coming off a 82-69 road loss to Northern Oklahoma-Enid on Monday, which snapped a three-game winning streak.
Redlands (7-9) enters with momentum from an 83-69 home victory over Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Monday. The Cougars have shown a pattern of alternating wins and losses over their last six games.
A key player for the Cougars will be Damond Matthews, who is coming off an efficient and productive performance. In Monday’s win, Matthews scored 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished five assists in just 23 minutes of play. Over his last four games, he has averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists, providing a consistent all-around threat for Redlands.
In the January matchup, Seminole State’s defense stifled the Cougars, holding them to 65 points, well below their season average in games where the full score is known. Containing Matthews and backcourt mate Treston Gage, who scored 20 points Monday, will likely be a focus for the Trojans’ defense.
For Seminole State, maintaining its strong home court advantage will be crucial. The Trojans have been formidable in Seminole this season, with key home wins over Connors State and Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa in recent weeks.
The game is the only scheduled meeting between the two teams in the remainder of the regular season. Following this contest, Redlands will host Northern Oklahoma-Enid on Monday, March 2. Seminole State will begin a two-game road swing at Connors State on the same date.
Tipoff is set for Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Seminole State College gymnasium.
