Arizona Western vs Yavapai
PRESCOTT, Ariz. (Interstat) — The Arizona Western Matadors look to continue their push toward the postseason when they visit the struggling Yavapai Roughriders in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Wednesday night.
Arizona Western (18-7) enters riding momentum after a 93-81 home victory over Southern Nevada on Saturday. The Matadors have won seven of their last nine games, establishing themselves as one of the region’s stronger squads.
Yavapai (5-15), meanwhile, seeks to snap a three-game skid following a 66-56 road loss at Central Arizona. The Roughriders have found wins scarce, dropping 12 of their last 14 contests.
The game features a stark contrast in recent form and a marquee individual matchup. Arizona Western is powered by forward Marsai Mason, who is coming off a dominant 27-point, 13-rebound, four-block performance. Over his last nine games, Mason has recorded six double-doubles, including a 38-point, 19-rebound outburst on Jan. 28. He posted 14 points and 13 rebounds in the first meeting against Yavapai this season.
Yavapai will counter with forward Jason Parent, who leads his team in scoring and rebounding during conference play. Parent is coming off a 22-point, 11-rebound effort against Southern Nevada on Feb. 18 but was held to just two points in the previous matchup with Arizona Western.
History favors the visitors. The Matadors have won both meetings this season, a 74-72 road victory on Jan. 21 and a 69-61 home win on Feb. 7. In the most recent clash, Arizona Western’s defense stifled Yavapai, holding the Roughriders to 32.8% shooting from the field.
For Yavapai to pull an upset, it must find consistent offense beyond Parent and improve on its recent defensive performances, having allowed an average of 77 points per game during its losing streak. Arizona Western will aim to control the interior through Mason and capitalize on its superior depth and record.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, at Yavapai College.
